It is always a delight to browse the IV homepage and be assured of an outstanding endeavour - relevant, thought-provoking and timely. Few journalistic ventures Islamic and otherwise, can stake this claim; I wish you continued success.
In reading this month’s edition, I was very disturbed to note the sad state of Muslim schools in Bangalore. It is, quite frankly, shameful that we Muslims are relegating our future generations to poverty and misery instead of preparing them to seize opportunities and take their rightful place in the new millennium.
The solutions are there, if the will is. What appears to be a seemingly hopeless situation can be overcome with some vision, ingenuity and action. For example, if Muslim professionals, teachers, retired officials -and I know there are thousands of these in Bangalore alone, can spend some of their time - even a meagre couple of hours a week coaching, there will be a visible positive impact on the results. So the bottom-line is whether we can spare a few hours a week to the improvement of our community ? Unless each one of us show some commitment, we will remain where we’ve been!

The following letter was written in the spirit of peace and with no judgements intended. It is my hope that you will find it of some value and will pass it on to another where at some point it will possibly find those it is addressed to. In this process perhaps we might gain a bit more understanding of each other.
An open letter to Osama Bin Laden, his followers, and all peoples of Islamic traditions around the world from one typical American:
We are entering a new era in which we will have the opportunity as never before to connect on some level with the use of new technologies. If you feel you have something to share with us, share it. If you feel you have something to teach us, teach it. The genius of each and every individual is needed and we have a choice to rise collectively toward a higher goal or to fall together. As long as we lack an understanding we cannot move forward toward a place that satisfies our soul and provides the peace I believe we all seek. My culture wears a mask of greed and self interest to hide the pain of existence, yours the mask of piety and control. We must choose to remove the masks we wear, if only temporarily, to reveal the faces of human kind with common goals. Those who see this must begin to encourage others.
While I can certainly appreciate and sympathize with your concerns regarding our culture. I lack an understanding of exactly what gain is intended in acts of aggression against our people. I clearly see your hatred and even feel it myself at times but to what end are your acts? This before all is a question that must be answered and presented to the world in such a way as to be understood.
To say that we (Americans) have been and remain terrified is known to you but threat that touches the deepest part of our souls serves only to advance our hatred and secure a desire to maintain our way of life at all costs and without regard to right or wrong. While the behaviour of some members of my government is less that desirable violent acts are serving only to give purpose to those who are set against you and those who are slaves to the unknown inside their own souls. Many Americans supported the recent acts of aggression against you. Many did not. Many do not know how to feel. When we feel strongly enough about a situation and if we make enough noise about it our views are considered and implemented. This process with all its flaws benefits any group of individuals that seek to use it. Why not seek out that process? Why turn us all into enemies when some could be friends? I do not believe the recent force was correct. Regardless of the intent.
People of all races, cultures and religions and spiritual levels cross the paths of every American daily but even without this and on the most basic level, we are you!

Alhamdulillah, the Web page, Islamic Voice, design and content point of view is excellent. Congratulations for your successful efforts. Not only it provides information about Islam, but also the news related to the Muslims in India. Thus, immigrants from India in the U.S.A. are in touch with brothers and sisters in India. You are doing great service to the Ummah.
I and some friends in the U.S.A. have recently organized a professional society on Ramadan Fasting Research, which publishes an electronic journal, International Journal of Ramadan Fasting Research. You can easily locate it through "Infoseek", "Alta Vista" or other search sites
Your services are great. Allah-subhanatala, give Tufeeque and Heedaya to all Muslims of the world to contribute in some way or the other (Aameen). Lot of our problems will be solved or reduced, Insha-Allah.

I am a new reader of your magazine I would like to know about Islamic Medical Association is there in Bangalore and if so the details thereof since we are planning to start IMA here in India which deals with the Qur'anic verses and the modern scientific evidence similar to the IMA in USA. Or, can you help us in contacting the doctors of Bangalore so that this Islamic Medical Association of India takes shape at the earliest.
