Save the Youth-A Masterpiece!

Kudos to Mr. M.Hanif Lakdawala for writing, and you for publishing the article "Save the Muslim Youth" in the June, 2003, issue of Islamic Voice. Such articles are the need of the present time when different sorts of religious extremism and fundamentalism are making all right thinking people "suffocate" and suffer silently not knowing what is in store in the coming days. The extremism in the name of religion is so strong that its opposition is like a cry in a jungle. Nobody seems to think spiritually and listen to the words of wisdom enshrined in the religious scriptures. Spirituality has taken a back seat and arrogant voices have polluted the whole atmosphere.

Even some "big people" have succumbed to this new phenomenon and they seem to sail with the way of the world. I don't want to name anybody as that will raise questions and that cannot be a solution. Religious leaders seem to be no more religious and humble, but political and militant. Their tone and tenor is most foul and rough. The common people are by and large peace loving, calm and religious in nature. It is the "leaders" who are mostly communal and partisan and some youngsters fall a prey to their or outside dictates under the wrong impression that they are doing something right. It is this mentality which is called "fundamentalism" and it is this evil which is the root cause for all ills of the society. May God save all of us from this fundamentalism which has nothing to do with religion but in fact anti-religion. Fundamentalism is not following the religious fundamentals, but acting in a way detrimental to the society misinterpreting religious scriptures and pretending as if loyal and faithful to the religion. It is said that even devils can quote scriptures and it is actually witnessed now.

The like of "Save the Muslim Youth" articles are more Islamic than articles written about the Principles of Islam in a routine way without applying mind and giving scholarly explanations. One can buy any number of books to know about Islam, but the time-needed articles like this of Mr. Hanif are rare. One feels that you can give importance to such articles and not to the articles of oft-repeated subjects which most readers do not read at all. They are only preserved as sacred writings! All are not like Dr.M. Azhar Quraishi who liked the old format of Islamic Voice as per his letter published in the issue under reference. I feel that the present format is more readable. I and my friends like the present policy of your esteemed monthly where timely articles and powerful editorials to awaken the Muslim community from its slumber are published. The changed policy is more welcome and if it changes further, giving importance to current topics in the light of the Islamic principles, it will still be better. It will serve the community and national causes at the present time when the world is in a crisis.

I happened to visit your web site, while I was searching for " Meenakshipuram" - The article on conversions of Dalits to Islam was available on your web site which was good, mashallah. But, please have the news articles dated. Good effort on your part and may Allah reward you for your efforts. But your feedback form is too lengthy. I did not have the patience to fill up all, but when I tried to submit, it was not working!

A Humble Query

Will some kind Moulvi Saheb please solve the following problem? By uttering the magical word of 'TALAQ' three times (TALAQ, TALAQ, TALAQ) I can (according to the moulanas) get an INSTANT DIVORCE, TO MY WIFE. By the exact same method of triple pronouncement, can I acquire myself an INSTANT wife if I tell the woman whom I love 'NIKAH, NIKAH, NIKAH'?
