Indian Muslims in North America
Sir, The Karnataka Wakf Minister, Mr. Hindsgeri has been quoted as saying that “tribunals are being formed to settle the issues related to Wakf properties. On paper it looks like some action is being taken for the first time to deal with the problem. However, there are a number of government orders since 1959 which have been passed by various Congress governments and have not been implemented. Until and unless the Minister means business and rectifies the shortcomings, presently in the Wakf Board, nothing concrete will materialise. There are various Wakf properties which have been encroached by the government and municipalities. There are also government orders to vacate encroachments. Why don’t you do so (present Government)? Why should there be a Tribunal to carry out prevailing orders?
At the same time it is often mentioned that there is a shortage of judges to decide the existing cases and the High Court themselves asked the government for retired judges. So, I don’t know from where judges can be made available for this Tribunal. I am sure after sometime the government will come up with the excuse that the courts are not sparing the judges.
Assuming that the Tribunals will be formed, are we prepared with proper land documents like Khathas and Survey Reports? Most of the Wakf properties have not been surveyed and the Khathas have not been updated and most of the Muthavallies and Wakf Board officials are ignorant of the Wakf Act 1995. So unless they are rectified and updated the proposed tribunals will only perform “last rites” on Wakf properties.

In your January 2000 issue of Islamic Voice, Dr. Zakir Naik's article "Is Present Version of Qur'an Original?" Contains a grave mistake. It should be a typing error, I suppose. It reads as follows:
Allah has promised in the Qur'an : "Men have, without doubt, Sent down the Message; And We will assuredly Guard it (from corruption)." (Al-Qur'an 15:)
It should be "We have, without doubt, Sent down the Message; And We will assuredly Guard it (from corruption)." The verse number is also incomplete. (Al-Qur'an 15:9)

This is the first time I had a chance to see the magazine on the Internet. I have not read any articles yet, but they appear very informative. I would like to contribute my thoughts concerning Indian Muslims in North America some time in the near future.
