New Delhi: A cross -section of Muslim intelligentsia here is opposed to the idea of formation of a separate party for Muslims. They are of the view that such a party in the present context would be suicidal for the community. They believe that such a move will further strengthen fundamentalist Hindus who are already targeting Muslims in different ways. The idea of a separate Muslim party came up during a rally of Muslims organised by Jamiat- ul-Ulema Hind, a socio- religious Muslim body, at the Ramlila ground here. A committee of seven members was also constituted to discuss the various aspects of the proposed party. The committee members include the Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmad Bukhari, Mahmood Madani, Arshad Madani of Jamiat Ulema and others. Rajya Sabha, MP and editor of Nai Duniya, Shahid Siddiquee says that many Muslim parties are already existing in many parts of the country. If a new party comes up, one more party will be added to them. “This party I am sure will also not do any miracle for the community”, he says .
