Jekyl and Hyde: Deshbhakts Exposed
The current dispensation of the ‘Deshbhakts’ in Delhi is a security threat to the nation as has been exposed by the Tehelka tapes.
THE affluent middle class in this country is shamelessly bereft of any idealism and represents the status quo in politics, hence it is lumpen in character. Naturally it gravitates towards forces that are regressive, conservative and reactionary and the BJP happens to be the apple of its eye. The liberal mask that Vajpayee and Jaswant Singh wear is the gift of this discredited class. Recent events have cruelly ripped off this mask and revealed them for what they are, Hydes masquerading as Jekyls, seemingly gentle and humane.
Recently the VHP activists burnt pages of the Holy Quran as a reaction to the indefensible vandalism of the Taliban,; this was in Delhi in the presence of Intelligence and Police agencies, who were passive onlookers and the media was indifferent too. When a Muslim delegation met Vajpayee on March 15 to protest this sacrilege, the media broke the news. A clash between protesting Muslim youth and the police in Kanpur led to a rampage by the notorious anti-Muslim Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) who had massacred Muslim youth in the 80s and thrown their bodies in a river and till now no justice has been done. In the present instance, honest police officers found PAC trucks loaded with articles looted from Muslim homes and business houses by the PAC personnel and returned these articles to the rightful owners. Yet the Chief Minister of the state slandered Muslims with allegations of conspiracy and Pakistan’s ISI role in it; Vajpayee agreed with this view. What happened in Kanpur was essentially a confrontation between angry Muslim youth and the PAC which the state chose to dub as communal riots.
The Bharathiya Hindu Suraksha Samiti (BHSS) brazenly burnt pages of the holy book again in Chandigarh, Patiala and Amritsar. Then on March 22, Vajpayee broke his resounding silence and thundered: “The BHSS vandals are irreligious and anti-national”.
To add insult to injury, on March 23, Vajpayee gave away awards at a function of the RSS Hindi mouthpiece, Panchajanya in the presence of the RSS supremo, K.S. Sudershan in the infamous company of Advani, M.M. Joshi and others. Panchajanya is notorious for its vicious, intemperate attacks on Muslims that could easily attract provisions of the Indian Penal Code for its criminal prosecution; yet it goes untouched, free to carry on its hate campaign. Vajpayee’s ‘gracing’ the occasion with his presence is tacit approval of the Manuvada theology of the Sangh Parivar. The people of India now know that this self-acclaimed deshbhakt is a great security risk as also his ‘esteemed colleague’ George Fernandes, as revealed in the Tehelka tapes.
Jaswant Singh with his upright military bearing, his sepulchral voice and sombre appearance wears a mask too with the story deliberately planted that the RSS has not taken to him kindly since he never belonged to the saffron band. But his book, Defending India (Publisber: Macmillan) bears ample testimony to his hawkish posture that could give great comfort to the Sangh Parivar. Here he is seen as provocative and combative, viewing Pakistan and China as looming too large on the Indian horizon and Afghanistan is the favourite whipping boy. He recognises America as the sole super power and believes India should team up with her to contain China. Then he has no qualms about India leading from the front in the battle against the so-called Islamic terror. He bemoans India’s defensive posture and commends an aggressive pro-active stance. To sum up, Jaswant Singh wants a jehad of his own against the jehadis since he believes, “India is a Hindu nation”. It is but natural that professing Manuvada, he, as a Kshatriya should play the sword-arm of the upper castes since he wears two hats as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
One could guess how insecure Indians are in the hands of such reckless revanchists.
The spate of incidents in different parts of India involving the Manuvada outfits, burning pages of the Holy Quran is the old-time strategy of the Sangh Parivar to deflect attention from crucial issues raised by the Tehelka tapes, by unleashing communal bloodbath. The Dalit upsurge in Ahmedabad in the80s, for reservations was transformed into riots, killing scores of Muslims. Then Advani rode his chariot of wrath holding aloft the kamandal in response to V.P. Singh’s Mandal Commission which turned out to be a juggernaut crushing thousands of Muslims under its wheels and destroying properties worth crores of rupees. Finally it was the demolition of the Babri Masjid , bringing in its wake a horrendous harvest of blood-soaked votes that put the saffron outfit in power.
Ironically, the sacrilege in answer to the heinous act of the Taliban brings to mind that it was the Shankaracharya who led the assault on Buddhism that resulted in destruction of the Buddhist Viharas and exiling that great faith from India.
The people of India should see through this sinister conspiracy of the Sangh Parivar that employs the lower castes as cannon fodder to fight the poor and marginalised and with infinite patience organise themselves into an indomitable force to bury the Manuvada ideology fathoms deep so that it never surfaces again in this land.
