Our Parents
By Tariq Huq

Look after them as you had been looked after
A word of contempt never utter
These are Allah’s words
Doesn’t this show their worth?

Of course! They are our parents
Who pass on many of their talents
Allah’s words in the Quran we find
So shouldn’t we respect them and be kind?

Our mothers’ sacrifices can never be measured
Such is the sacrifice she’s always observed
So always to her be kind and sweet
For paradise lies at our mother’s feet

Our fathers work day and night
Making sure everything at home is right
From his pocket we spend and spend
The fruits of his labour we get off-hand.

To make us come back they wish and plead
We go back only in times of need
Still they welcome us almost with greed
As though we were their hungry hearts’ feed.
