Board of Islamic Education

Muslims are very worried about the coming generation which is attending the secular schools where there is no room for Islamic and religious education in the school syllabus.. The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) thought about the moral plight of the coming generation of Muslims. As a remedy, it established the Board of Islamic Education, Karnataka and Goa in 2002 with the aim to impart the knowledge of the Quran, Hadith, Fiqh and Islamic History to the young Muslims. The Chairman of the Board is President of JIH Karnataka and Goa. The permanent members include President, All India Islamic Teachers Association Karnataka (AIITA) and State President of Students Islamic Organisation and nine renowned teachers are members of the Board. The Courses offered include Islamic Certificate Course and Diploma in Islamic Studies. In the year 2005, 11,144 students took admission into these courses. Currently, there are 160 centres in Karnataka and Goa. Even non-Muslim boys took admission into these courses. Heart Bypass through the Abdomen

Commonly Bypass Surgery of the heart is undertaken through the centre of the chest by opening the breastbone vertically. Dr. F. Sadruddin Shariff, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, from Bangalore performed a rare approach to the same at the Sagar Apollo Hospital recently. The patient was a middle-aged man hailing from Arsikere, working as a Clerk who was suffering from Coronary Artery Disease, Single Vessel Disease on the right side. The vessel had multiple blocks in it and the patient had severe angina. He was advised multiple stenting at an enormous cost which he could not afford. A new technique of minimal invasiveness was adopted through the Abdomen; an incision was made on the Abdomen sparing the Chest completely, an Artery taken from the Stomach was connected to the Heart through a rent in the diaphragm on a beating heart, at almost 1/3rd the cost. Such procedures have been practised elsewhere in the world, but was not implemented in India. Dr. Sadruddin was invited to Canada to participate in the 16th World Congress of the World Society of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon in Ottawa. He presented a paper on Heart Bypass Surgery through the Abdomen. For more details, contact : 9845450005 / 22202200

A Humble Request

I am Sheikh Khurshid Alam and 19 years old. I hail from a middle class family. I am very fond of reading, specially Islamic literature and have a burning desire to know more about my religion and for that I need books which can tell me about my glorious past, the lives of the sahabas, the lives of my imams and jurists and about the life history of the saviours of the Islamic spirit. I am good in English and Hindi. Currently I have a collection of about 65 books related to Islamic teachings in English. The majority of my neighbours and friends lack the spirit to know about Islam. To promote reading habit in my neighbourhood, I have opened a small library in my room itself. I am not asking the readers to fund my library monetarily, but I will be highly obliged if readers of Islamic Voice and others too can send Islamic literature in English, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali. I will appreciate any kind contribution by way of Islamic books to my library. My address is: Al-Shams Library, Sheikh Khurshid Alam, S/O Amjad Hussain, 23B, G.J Khan Road, City-Kolkata-700039, Post Office- Tiljala, Police Station- Tiljala, West Bengal.
