From Master Cutter to Master Caterer
By Jaffar Ahmed

Muneer Khan’s story is a story from the scissor to the spoon! Coming from a family of master cutters, his father owns a tailoring outfit- Abdul Rashid Khan on Commercial Street, in Bangalore for over 30 years. Muneer’s change of fortune began when he set up his tailoring unit at a very old and well known shop on O.P.H. Road (Jumma Masjid Road) S.R. Grant & Co.. It was here that he decided, along with his cousin Khalid to throw his hat into the outdoor catering ring, at that time not as competitive as now. So M.K. Caterers was set up in 1987. It was Muneer’s passion for cooking and organising house parties that motivated him to become a professional caterer. He and Khalid organised an Eid-Milan party for a women’s organisation, Bazm-e-Niswan. It was a tremendous success and from then onwards there was no looking back. As the business grew, Muneer and Khalid parted ways amicably and now Muneer is the sole proprietor of M.K. Caterers. He now caters to Engagements, Weddings and Outdoor Catering Functions for Political Parties and Government Dinners at Raj Bhavan and the Banquet Hall at Vidhana Soudha. He has also been very successful outdoors at Hassan, Mysore, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Salem and Chennai. Despite his success in the field, soft spoken Muneer Khan’s modesty is to be seen to be believed. Adding the personal touch to the catering, you can catch him giving the final touches to the salad and seviyan with a twinkle in his eye!
