The Trail Blazer From Tral
By A Staff Writer

Amidst the turmoil in the Valley, the Ikhlas Welfare Society, led by Dr Nisar, has done path-breaking work, right from workshops on AIDS and cancer, to mega medical aid camps.

For dream merchants of Bollywood, Kashmir is an ideal locale to make their stars sing and dance and for the media, Kashmir makes news because of the militancy. The real face of Kashmir is never seen and that is why when one encounters down-to-earth selfless individuals from the Valley, working round-the-clock to make lives of people better, it serves as a ray of hope. Dr Nisar Ahmad Bhat (Trali) fits into this frame of “selfless souls.” A practising physician (M.D.-internal medicine) based at Kashmir, Dr Nisar who was on a short visit to Bangalore, is a product of the Govt Medical College, Srinagar, completing his MBBS in 1983 and M.D in 1996 . He has worked under the guidance of the acclaimed physician of the Valley, Dr G.Q. Allaqbandh.

Dr Nisar has written more than 30 books/pamphlets in Urdu on different medical topics besides 50 scientific publications in scientific journals. He is the founder and chairman of the NGO-Ikhlas Welfare Society in Tral. He has remained an active co-ordinator of the Cancer Society of Kashmir. He is features editor of JK Health News Kashmir and Al-Hayat, both monthly magazines. He has been actively involved in medical aid camps in different rural areas. His name is listed in the “Marquis Who’s Who” in Science and Engineering -2004-05 edition. He was also awarded the first “JK-Practioner Award” (Scientific Award) by the Doctors Association, Kashmir. Amidst the turmoil in the Valley, his NGO, the Ikhlas Welfare Society, has done path-breaking work right from public awareness workshops on AIDS and cancer to mega medical aid camp at Gutroo village where 800 patients were treated free. While Dr Nisar’s focus has been on creating health awareness among the masses, he also believes that one ought to keep in touch with the latest developments in the medical world. A subject close to his heart is Tibb-e-Nabavi. He has been scanning through libraries to gather any research work that has been done on how allopathy has taken sources and elements from Tibb-e-Nabavi. Dr Nisar will be glad to receive feedback on this from readers. His books and pamphlets on different medical topics are available with him. He can be reached at:
