Unsung hero
By A Staff writer
Siddique Qureshi has devoted entire life teaching today's generation to ponder over Quran through collective learning and focusing on character building through essence of the holy Quran

Devoting life for a cause is rare. But there are numerous unsung heroes who have devoted their life for a particular cause to bring changes at the grassroots level, but still they don't find any mention even in the community media.

One such unsung hero is Siddique Qureshi based in Mumbai who devoted his entire life to Mutala-e-Quran, a methodical learning of the holy scripture. The purpose is to teach the essence of the holy Quran to youth and build their character. He does not charge anything, not even the traveling allowances.

Though he does not have any organization of his own nor any trust, Siddique Qureshi is organizing and conducting weekly and fortnightly Mutala-e-Quran at seven places besides Quranic workshop across India single-handedly.

The core philosophy behind Siddique Qureshi's efforts is that the welfare of the entire humanity depends upon following the guidance and understanding of the Quran. His classes focus on collective pondering on each Quranic verse and its practical implications in individual life. Currently all these group studies are held in the premises of well-wishers.

Qureshi opines that even though there are many translations of the meanings of the Quran, they do not help the reader in pondering about the Almighty Allah's creation. He says, 'Allah has emphasized a lot in the Quran to exercise tadabbur regarding the Quran i.e. to ponder over it while giving careful consideration to the consequences and results that ensue following its principles, precepts and injunctions. The Quran declares that the very purpose of the Book is tadabbur and tazakkur, i.e. to ponder upon it and stay mindful of it” and quotes the following:

(This is) a Book that We have revealed unto you (O Prophet), full of lasting Bliss that they may ponder upon its Messages and that those who have understood may (take them to heart and [always] be mindful.[38:29]

Will they not then ponder over the Qur'an, or is it that they have their locks on (their) hearts (which bar them from reason) [47:24].

To survive Qureshi undertakes printing and publishing work. He earns enough to lead a simple life. Saving are invested in buying Islamic books as well as various translation and exegeses of Quran by eminent Islamic scholars for a mini library at his home in Kurla in east Mumbai.
