Discovering Yourself in Diamond City

Botswana is a diamond in the rough — scratch the surface and it positively sparkles. One of the few remaining destinations in Africa where the adventuresome safari spirit still survives, Botswana has lots of wide-open spaces — and lots of wildlife to fill them. The country has some of the largest remaining herds of wildlife in Africa.

Gaborone is the capital of Botswana, but does not pretend to be a tourist destination. It is strategically placed close to the South African border and on main transport routes. The area is famous for its diamonds.

A.W. Sadathullah Khan, travelled to Botswana for the Three-Day “Discover Yourself” Workshop at Tandoori Palace in Gaborone, Botswana on February 10, 11 and 12, 2006. The participants had a sparkle on their faces after being part of the Workshop, as they share their experiences.

Rehmat: What can I say? I have no words to describe. I have attended several workshops but this cannot be compared. I thank Allah for bringing me here to participate in this workshop. I thank whole-heartedly all the sponsors. May Allah bless you all in every way possible.

Farhan: I feel very hopeful of the future in putting these tools into my life. I see my faults more clearly. I had gained lot of knowledge (deen) before but actually applying the knowledge in the daily life makes so much sense. Such a workshop for the young should be organised.

Mubeena: After two days of my attending the workshop, my son commented that he had seen a change in me, for the better. That was just what I wanted to have. Inshallah, I shall practice and practice.

Raazia: I learnt a lot. I see life from a different angle. I learnt to make shukr and sabr to whatever is happening in my life. I did not know how much I was carrying until I came to this workshop. Jazakallah- for coming to Botswana and showing me the light.

Fatima: Before the workshop I had given up hopes of ever healing. I have suffered a very severe injury and I had no confidence of achieving my goals, because of the fear. Now I feel confident that anything can be achieved.

Roohi: Found my faults within myself-that were hidden. My true self emerged . My life is not yellow anymore.

Harun Baba: I find this workshop extremely helpful in demystifying the self; discovering it and charting a pious/ pure course for it towards the final abode i.e. Al-Jannah. It is very practical and offers the access into experiencing life within the realm of divine injunctions. I had listened to Islamic scholars, but it was for the first time, I now can link my present existence to the initial purpose of creation of man, the oath of allegiance to Allah and as a vicegerent of Allah on earth. I can now assume that role of Khalifa with all confidence and live it! My wife also attended this workshop here and has benefited very much from it, and it has helped both of us to explore our lives as husband and wife to re-dedicate ourselves to live in the present, create a significant future reflecting the present existence, and live a harmonious life.

Riaz: The worrying is gone. The workshop has given me a sense of confidence as it has rekindled my being. I have done a similar workshop previously, but was not of a very of Islamic nature. So this workshop has given me a refresher course of really living.

Fiaz: Too much to list!! In a word it is a fabulous workshop. The whole world needs it. I got the access to the world of being, from the world of doing. Thanks.

Rahman: before the workshop I was under the ego’s shelter, but now I shall put my best to be under Allah’s shelter.

Versi: This workshop is extremely useful and very interesting. It changed my perspective, my expectancy, my attitude and forbearance with the world at large, patients, and staff and very much towards my family wife and children.

Khader: My family has benefited tremendously. I always spoke to my son very harshly and he reacts as scared and frightened. When I went home after the workshop and spoke to him in a polite manner, he came to me and hugged me. This has made me to realise my wrong attitude towards him.

Life? It's Calm as the Lake

Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty, old historic city and modern urban planning. It is the 11th century city Bhojpal, founded by Raja Bhoj, but the present city was established by an Afghan soldier, Dost Mohammed (1707-1740). His descendants build Bhopal into a beautiful city. The two lakes of Bhopal still dominate the city, and are its nucleus.

The Three-Day “Discover Yourself” Workshop was conducted by A.W. Sadathullah Khan in Bhopal on January, 6, 7 and 8, 2006 at Barkatullah Bhavan. For the residents of the City of Lakes, life was as clear and calm as the lakes after the Workshop. Here, some of the participants share their experiences.

Ayesha: After attending the “Discover Yourself” three-day Workshop , I acquired many valuable ideas about how to lead life in a better way. I had imprisoned myself in an imaginary cage, but now I feel so free. I realised the basis of strong relationships is to give yourself completely without expecting anything in return. I am a perfectionist and expected the same from others. But now I accept people as they are, without looking at their flaws and faults.

Nausheen Khan: The “Discover Yourself” Workshop conducted by Mr Sadathullah Khan gave me the keys to get myself out of darkness and live a life with light. The path towards Allah is the path to love. I really learnt this at the Workshop. I was a person always worried about what people think of me. Now I am free of these shackles and mix with all without any hurdles in my mind.

Syeda Najma Kazi: The most important thing I acquired from the “Discover Yourself” Workshop was the “ Power of Choice.” This is the power that I have now, to choose the path of my life. I have become more focused, have control over my temper and concentrate on my prayers. I was holding on to my annoying past and those memories. But now I have let bygones be bygones and look forward to a bright future. I have become patient now.

Shahana Khan: Losing temper at kids is common. I too used to do it, but not anymore. The Workshop opened up various possibilities for me. One of them was the ability to handle chaos at home. Earlier I would get angry, but now I am calm and with the help of my children’s co-operation able to do make my home look spic and span. I have become kind, generous and helpful.

Subul Aijaz: I always thought I could never change my point of view about people. After attending the Workshop, I got the energy, power and confidence. Earlier I used to derive wrong meaning and judge people, in the process stuck in my past. But by Allah’s grace, through the Workshop, I have let go of my past and also stopped thinking or worrying about my future. I feel empowered to achieve something for myself and for Islam. My family too will be influenced by this “changed me.”

Sameer: The Workshop has helped me start living my life as a “human being.” This means being kind, optimistic, trustworthy, helpful and honour my word, no matter what. The most crucial thing is the ability to balance this present life towards the path of Allah and that came through very well for me in this Workshop. Prior to attending this Workshop, I was short-tempered, leading to stress and tension within myself. . But now I am clear and cool in my mind and heart. Thanks to Sadathullah Sir for this.

Zeba: The knowledge I gained by attending this Workshop was much greater that what I learnt in school. The lessons I learnt here are many-most important –“don’t blame others,” “don’t fear anybody,” “be honest” and “keep your word.” This workshop set me free from all fears and now I can confidently speak up and stand up for the right.

Shazia Jamal Afzal: The Art of Forgiving-is the most memorable aspect I gained from this Workshop. I have given up my anger and even blaming others. This is a unique Workshop, because it helped me acquire the practical tips to implement the principles of Islam in our daily lives. According to me, forgiving is the most tough task, but now I find it as easy as holding a feather.

Syeda Sana Riyaz: The Workshop changed the thinking of not just me, but all the participants. I have become confident and self-reliant. Islam is peace and I feel at peace. The Workshop helped many people realise the power within themselves. Allah has given us good life and we should make best use of it and not waste it away.

Nabila Khan: The Workshop altered every area of my life in a positive way. It helped me deal with anger. My negative image of myself too vanished! I cherish my goal to be a doctor and now I promise myself to work wholeheartedly towards this. At the end of the day, I learnt that I have to be the Khalifa of Allah and that is the purpose of my life.

Farah Khan: To forgive others is something that will set one free. This is what the Workshop did to me. I gave up my prejudices and learnt to forgive people. Decision-making now has become easy for me as I have stopped worrying about my future. I am contented and happy with my life. I accept all the relationships, people and things that Allah has given me as His Gifts.

Sana Ishaque: Unnecessary worries are not out of my heart and mind. After attending the Workshop, my life has completely changed. I am a “new Sana” full of joy and happiness. I love myself, my family and Allah the most.

The Past is an Echo

Situated on the southern bank of the river Ganges, Patna is a typical tropical city of northern India. Patna is famous for its glorious past, especially the period of Magadh and the Mauryan rule. The magnificent monuments around the city take one down the passages of history to the glorious past of the city.

History of sorts was created in Patna on January 27, 28 and 29, 2006 when the Three-Day “Discover Yourself” Workshop conducted by A.W. Sadathullah Khan transformed lives of the participants, who left behind the echoes of their past to carve a glorious future. Here, some of the participants share their experiences after being part of the Workshop at the Haj Bhavan in the city.

Mohd. Imran Ahamad: The “Discover Yourself” Workshop bestowed me with tremendous power and knowledge. Apart from making me a practising Muslim, it has empowered me to radiate this knowledge to others around me. I knew Islam in theory, but it was the Workshop that opened my eyes to practically implement Islam in every aspect of my life.

Shaziya Fatima: If I had not attended the Workshop, I would have really missed something precious. I was able to control my mind from wandering into non-stop chatter and also stopped getting into arguments with elders. I feel motivated to take up a good job in future.

Shabina Rahman: I carried the jewel of wisdom through the Workshop and that is that if one keeps thinking of the past, the present is lost. So be conscious of the present . As human beings, we always keep judging each other. I got over this completely and face life as it comes. It is important to take responsibility for yourself.

Tasneem Khan: My inner voice would often misguide me. But now the Workshop has instilled in me the values of being true to oneself. The biggest achievement for me is giving up my ego. I feel energetic to make a positive difference in the lives of other people. It is important to take action and do things which will please Allah and I am all set for this now.

Shagufta: Being a student and well aware of the Muslim society, two critical factors today are literacy and Muslim unity. The Workshop has encouraged me to be part of the Movement to transform people’s lives by being positive in my own thoughts and actions. I acquired a brand new view towards life.

Nadia Samar: Sadathullah Khan Sir conducted the Workshop in the most interesting manner, taking good examples from the Quran and the Hadith. The Workshop was practical and that is why it touched the heart. We make our lives complicated which is not necessary. We can alter our lives by following simple principles of Islam. This Workshop will immensely help the Muslim community.

Nagma Shadab: The Workshop and its principles have improved my life. I feel I am a new person. My heart feels lighter and all my worries have perished. It is important for all Muslims to know their religion well. It was through this Workshop I learnt that we should take all decisions based on the pleasure of Allah and not based on our own ego or desires.

Sufia Zahra: Before I came for the Workshop I was in my own imaginary world, comparing myself to others. I was clinging to my past, worrying about the future and in the process, confused about the present. Thanks to Almighty Allah, I was able to forget my past. I have becoming a caring person and also have realised why Allah created us and that is to be his representatives on this earth.

Nooreen Zama: Being part of the “Discover Yourself” Workshop, I found the answers to many boiling questions in my mind. I feel great after destroying the “Ana”, the ego. I discovered my true self. I am not an introvert now. The Workshop really lifted my spirits and has helped me fly freely like a bird into the millions of possibilities htat life has in store for me. Inshallah.

Dr Waseem Khursheed: I thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to attend this excellent “Discover Yourself” Workshop conducted by Sadathullah Khan Sir. It has completely changed my life and I have thrown away the ego out of my mind. My outlook towards life and people has transformed into a positive one.
