Millat Masajid Directory
By Millat Management Society of India
|
GF-20 Hameedshah Complex Cubbonpet Main Road, Bangalore-560002 Phone: 22283844 millatmgt@rediffmail.com
The Millat Masajid Directory is the outcome of a survey of mosques and allied institutions in Bangalore and Kolar districts of Karnataka during the last two years. Prof. Salam Musheer and his colleagues from Millat Management Society have taken pains to collect details of nearly 533 mosques in the two districts. It collects data about the office bearers of the mosque management committee, location, phone numbers and institutions such as theological schools, library, baitulmals, etc.
The directory runs into 266 pages. It could have been compiled in far less number of pages with tighter editing. Instead of wasting a good amount of space on columns showing ‘Not Available’, it could have restricted itself to mentioning what is available. It could be further simplified with mere use of certain symbols for schools, madrassas, baitulmal, library etc as is the practice with railway timetables. At several places the printing is very poor.
Despite all these short-comings, the Directory is an appreciable venture as it greatly enhances the networking within the community. It is hoped that the future volumes would be leaner and handier.

Jihad - In the Light of Holy Quran
By Faizan Ahmed Azizi
|
Translated by: Mohd. Ishak Khan Azizi Islamic Awareness Society 4/ A 1, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Nagar, (Taximen’s Colony). L.B.S Marg, Kurla-West, Mumbai - 400070. islamicvoiceawarenesssociety@yahoo.com
The book deals with the abuse of the philosophy of jihad. The author has attempted to create an awareness that Islam had always advocated good human values. The book has been published when the cry of jihad is being heard all over the world. “By writing the book, I had decided to enlighten readers about the misinterpretation of the word jihad, now synonymous with terrorism,” says Azizi. He said the real meaning of jihad according to the holy Quran and the Hadith is a holy war against injustice and self interest. Jihad is fighting as prescribed by Allah to eliminate injustice, selfishness and personal gain. According to the author, Islam permits jihad to save the innocent and the hapless from the clutches of tyrants. At no point of time, does Islam permit the wanton destruction of human life in the guise of jihad as misconstrued by some extremists.
