AESTHETICS & ECOLOGY

Bangalore developer's iconic project wins three awards : Bearing no Comparison
The Bearys Group has emerged on the cityscape of Bangalore with a distinct identity wherein aesthetics and ecology have acquired foremost priority. Its iconic project Bearys Lakeside Habitat did a hat-trick bagging three consecutive awards namely 'Outstanding Concrete Structure Award 2007' from Indian Concrete Institute, 'Highly Commended Residential Project Award 2008' from Cityscape, Asia and 'Best Architecture Award' from Government. of Karnataka, Town Planning Board on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations.

Having contributed several remarkable landmarks to the skylines of Bangalore and Mangalore, the Group is now reckoned as the major promoter of social concern in a field where space is money.
Having raised an empire within three decades, company chairman Syed Mohammad Beary is a self-made man humble enough to attribute everything to Divine grace. The Group runs as many as 16 educational institutions including an engineering college in Mangalore and other coastal towns of Karnataka.

The Islamic Voice spoke to Syed Mohammad Beary even as honours came his way during November. Excerpts from his interview:

Q: Your work has been mostly regarded as one reaching for the eyeball. In crass commercialization of the building/developing sector, how does one accord so high a preference for aesthetics?

A:
In the creation of anything good and beautiful, aesthetics is most important and cannot be overlooked. We never think 'commercial' while pursuing a project. I know even as I say this people would be saying “do you expect us to believe that? Developers are in it only for the money”. Honestly, gain is only a by-product. We do not work with commercial angle in mind. We work for the satisfaction and fulfillment of creating something unique and enduring. I have always believed that when a product is good, other things will follow. As we often quote 'Construction is a labour of love' and it is this passion and eye for the detail that makes the difference.

Q: Ecology is a major concern today. But pressure on space urges disregard for all ecological norms. How do you reconcile the two?

A:
Having taken birth in Mudigere in Chikmagalur (an extremely picturesque hilly region) and raised in Kodi, a scenic coastal hamlet, respect and love for nature is inborn and forms an important part of everything I do. We have embraced 'Triple E' as a road map for our future growth i.e. Entrepreneurship, Education & Environment. It is the sum total of all our enterprises. Ecology is a major concern and must take precedence over all others. There is no question of compromise on these. There are other ways of overcoming space constraints and we do our best to innovate to take care of these. We work with our architects to think and think again.

Q: What is the major source of inspiration for your projects?
A:
God's Creation. I think our vision statement says it all.
