Jamaat Launches Islami Family Campaign

The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is all set to launch a countrywide Islami Family Campaign from December 1 to 10, 2006, according to Maulana Muhammad Rafeeque Qasmi, Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. He is also convenor of the 10-day campaign which is aimed to educate Muslims, men as well as women, to lead their life in strict accordance with the Islamic Shari’ah. The campaign comprises topics such as Islamic family regulations, Islamic injunctions of Nikah and Talaq, easy way of Nikah and kinds of Talaq viz. Talaq-e-Ahsan, Talaq-e-Hasan and Talaq-e-Bida’yee, explanation of Khula and its method, dissolution of Nikah, introduction of Halala and its Shari’ah status, status of joint family system, status of women, extravagance in marriage and other functions, facilitating re-marriage of widows and divorcees, women’s liberation and Shari’ah limitations of women seeking jobs and their impact on life.

Face Lift for Meena Bazar

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to give a brand new look to the congested walled city area around the historic Jama Masjid, by the year 2008. The authorities have planned a complete renovation of one of Delhi’s oldest areas.


According to MCD, the area around the 18th century Mughal monument will get a posh new shopping complex, a multi-level parking with kiosks on the top floors and roads which will be clear and traffic-free, all before May 2008. Besides, an amphi-theatre to showcase the history of the place will be built in the area, which is at present known as Meena Bazar for the benefit of foreign tourists. Meena Bazar will be shifted from its current location to a modern multi-storied market in which the present occupants will be relocated and its roof will be covered with grass. The Draft Plan, which has been prepared by the civic body’s consultants, will be presented to the Delhi High Court on December 6. After its approval, work on the project will begin.

International Qirat Quran Competition in Bhopal

A two -day international Qirat Quran competition was organised at Bhopal, in which 22 participants including Qaris from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Iran participated. This was the third international Qirat Quran competition organised under the aegis of Alami Anjuman Zinatul Quran at Iqbal Maidan in the city. The first prize, worth Rs 25,000 was won by Qari Obedullah Afghani from Afghanistan. Najmul Hasan from Bangladesh stood second and won Rs 15,000, while the third prize of Rs 5,000 was won by Qari Iqbal from Bangalore. Thirteen year old, Qari Mohammed Saqib and Quadratullah Belachi from Iran were given consolation prizes. Ameer of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid, Maulana Peer Saeed Miyan and Cultural Counsellor, Iranian Embassy, Murtuza Shafai Shakeb were the chief guests.


Qaris from Pakistan failed to participate in the competition due to delay in obtaining the visa. Organising Committee secretary, Abdul Hafiz Khan said that the number of participants would increase next year.
